A little about me…
My name is Sue Lawther-Brown and I lived for nearly fifty years in the U.K, in the counties of Essex and Suffolk. I was born in Lusaka, Zambia and in December 2023 I packed up my life in the U.K and invited my Husband to join me on a new adventure. He did. And here we are….
Culture, Creativity and Education
I’ve worked in the U.K for thirty years in a range of roles, including Director of Creative Partnerships ( Thames Gateway) and Director of Spread the Word, London’s writer development agency. I was also Head of Communications in two regional theatres and Senior Partner with Mathilda Joubert’s Excite! programme.
What I love most is working with talented, creative people on work that has impact in society in some way. Be that making compelling art, developing an organisation so it has greater impact or providing consultation to creative SMEs so they can be better at what they do.
Family matters
I have 2 grown up children. My husband has 3 grown up children. Between us we have 12 grandchildren, whom we adore.
I was born in Lusaka in 1969 and only returned to Zambia in 2023. My mother was born in Harare (then Salisbury) and so was her mother. My maternal grandfather was Scottish, and so were my paternal grandparents.
My paternal grandfather, Ian MacDonald Lawther, had a senior role in the Rhokana copper mines and he lived much of his adult life in Kitwe and Ndola, where he died in the early 1970s. My maternal grandparents retired and passed away in Johannesburg.
What I’m up to now
Here in Zambia I was for a year the CEO of Chipembele Wildlife Education Trust. In March 2025 I start a new role as General Manager of Tribal Textiles, a social impact company that employs over 80 people locally, and which supports a thriving artisan collective.
When I’m not working, I write, bake and swim.
